R.I.P. Moog

Robert A. Moog, inventor of the electronic synthesizer died as a result of a brain tumor this weekend in Asheville, NC, the Associated Press reports.

From Rock to Bach, the Moog was a fave among musicians throughout the late 60s and 70s. The Beatles, the Who, Stevie Wonder and others used this new musical technology.

And just think -- without Moog's invention, there would have been no Pink Floyd.

Yes, RIP, Bob Moog...

I sincerely hope you've had the pleasure of running that sweet Jazz Bass in your profile photo through a Moogerfooger Low Pass Filter. If you haven't, do it soon.

Not much for affects personally -- about the only thing I use is a compressor, and I've used a chorus a little.

However, given an opportunity to play with Moogerfooger, it sounds like it would be fun.

I use the Moogerfooger to remove basically all the high frequencies from the bass signal. The result can be anything from a full-bodied reggae bass sound to an extreme "dub" kinda subsonic thing.

It can also act as an envelope follower or wah pedal. These applications aren't always 100% practical, but fun if used in the right places...
