First the NY Times and now CNN -- finally -- focus on the Obama-Ayers connection.
"But the relationship between Obama and Ayers went much deeper, ran much longer, and was much more political than Obama said."
Bill Ayers and his wife Bernadine Dorhn were founders of the radical group the Weathermen -- which through the late 60s and early 70s bombed public buildings, including the U.S. Capitol, killed police officers and robbed banks.
NPR this morning described Ayers as a "former terrorist." Isn't that sort of like being a "former child molester" or a "former cannibal"?

Yes, that sinister spectre of fundraising for education rears its ugly head again. What a crazy concept to develop experimental schools. Earlier in his life, according to some Republican claims, Obama ordered and orchestrated the bombings from his 3rd grade classroom. What's your point? Do you think someone is going to whisper "Afghanistan Bananistan" in Obama's ear and his instructions to destroy America will be activated?
Frankly, Jonathan, I don't think you could have missed the point more -- unless you point was simply to repeat the Obama talking points.
Obama and has campaign have consistently tried to downplay his association with a terrorist -- this is not Bella Abzug we're talking about here.
There is far more too this than the two of them sitting on an "educational" board. Fact of the matter is, Obama launched his political career in Ayer's livingroom. That indicates much more than a "guy in the neighborhood" relationship.
It goes to the issue of integrity, authenticity and who Obama really is -- and it's not who he says he is.
I will concede that he should be more forthright about that. But what does that make him? a politician? At this point I think Ayers, whatever he was, is an activist. Ayers isn't running for anything. Do you think Ayers would be appointed to a government post?
Once again, I think it goes to the issue of who Barack Obama is as opposed to who he says he is.
The truth of the matter is, Barack by his associations and his politics stands much farther to the left than he is telling people.
He is, in fact, very closely associated with people who hold radical -- in fact, extreme -- political positions, specifically Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers.
And it's not sufficient for him to duck and diminish the significance of those relationships and those views.
Sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander -- if Sarah Palin's conservative, evangelical Christian views are relevant and fair game for scrutinity, then so is this.
